This coffee comes from the province of Muyinga in northern Burundi - a beautiful hilly area with an average elevation of over 1500 m above sea level. In addition to coffee, cassava is widely grown around Mount Karira, which is also a significant source of income for local farmers. In the past, there was a dispute between the descendants of the royal family - the princely brothers, which grew into a bloody war with a lot of lost lives of local residents. This is where the name "Karira" comes from the verb "Kurira", which means "to cry" in Kirindu.
