This coffee is produced by Masha Quality Holdings, a small family enterprise north-west of Kapchorwa town on the slopes of Mt. Elgon. The director, Sylvia Achebet and her husband Alfred Boyo, have grown up in coffee farming families and made the production of high-quality, specialty grade coffee their passion. The cherries are grown by a group of 11 farmers, five of them women. In addition, women and youth are employed during the harvest season and to encourage financial empowerment. Environmental concerns are addressed by encouraging the farmers to apply ecological methods such as soil conservation by digging trenches, mulching and soil enrichment through leguminous plants. The connection with the environmental NGO AidEnvironment allows the farmers to produce organic fertilizer and build bio-gas systems and rain water tanks.
