In the mountainous region of Jaltenango, Chiapas, more than 300 families are part of La Tribu, a local producer organization operating in the Jaltenango and Sierra Madre regions. Bean Voyage has been working with La Tribu for several years, focusing on purchasing coffee from 65 producers in their network.
These women are not only producing high-quality coffee — they are also building resilience and developing thriving businesses for themselves and their families. Despite the structural challenges that smallholder farmers often face, they continue to invest in their land, expand their knowledge, and strive for long-term stability. Through coffee, they are creating a path to economic independence and shared prosperity.
This year, they created a decaffeinated batch called Vayichil —a word that means “to dream” in Tzotzil, a Mayan language spoken in many communities in Chiapas. The name reflects both the care given to this coffee and the vision these producers have for their future.
The coffee has been decaffeinated using the Mountain Water Process in Veracruz, which helps preserve its complexity while highlighting its naturally sweet and smooth character. It's a decaffeinated coffee that you can enjoy at any time of day — without compromising on the taste, traceability, or values it represents.
The collaboration with La Tribu and the introduction of Vayichil coffee as a product rooted in local language, landscape, and leadership reflects the long-term efforts of women producers to shape a more sustainable and equitable future for coffee.
