The Kii washing station is operated by the Rungeto Farmers Cooperative Society (F.C.S.), which brings together approximately 1,215 active coffee growers. Coffee cultivation in this area began to develop in 1953. The average farmer here cultivates a plot of land approximately 0.3 hectares in size, on which they grow about 400 coffee trees.
The cooperative operates three washing stations – Kii, Karimikui, and Kiangoi. It is managed by an elected seven-member board of directors, which includes representatives of growers from individual areas. The daily operations are handled by 25 permanent employees under the leadership of the cooperative manager. In cooperation with Sustainable Management Services Limited, the cooperative has been working long-term to improve coffee quality and increase yields.
Farmers deliver freshly harvested coffee cherries to the station on the same day of harvest. After sorting, the cherries are de-pulped, the coffee then ferments (usually overnight), then it is washed with clean river water, and finally, it is dried on African raised beds in direct sunlight.

The Kirinyaga region is located in central Kenya at the foot of Mt. Kenya. Thanks to its mountain climate, abundant rainfall (approximately 1,270 mm annually), numerous rivers, and fertile volcanic soils, it offers ideal conditions for growing exceptional coffee. It is precisely the combination of high altitude, sufficient water, and careful processing that gives the coffees from this region their typical character – pronounced fruitiness, juicy acidity, and a clean, sweet flavor profile.
