Burundi Kibingo Washed

The Kibingo washing station in the Kayanza region of Burundi cooperates with over 3,500 local farmers. Each of them has, on average, about 300 coffee trees on a small area of about 0.1 hectares. For most of these families, coffee is the main source of livelihood.

The harvest usually takes place from April to June. As Burundi is a landlocked country, the coffee has a long journey ahead of it for export after harvesting. Before shipment, it is processed in the BUDECA SIVCA dry mill.

Kibingo station has an interesting history. It was originally supposed to be built directly on Kibingo hill, but due to poor accessibility and local regulations, it was eventually built on Kirema and Kinga hills. Nevertheless, it retained the name Kibingo. This led to minor disputes among the residents of the surrounding hills, as some people believe that the station should bear a different name. Despite these differences, local farmers continue to produce quality coffee together.
